There is a new update on Florian Wirtz and his potential move to Liverpool.

Liverpool fans were sent into a frenzy on Wednesday after it emerged that the club had held talks with Wirtz and his representatives on Tuesday.

The German international is one of the most sought-after players in world football, and it is easy to see why that is so.

The 22-year-old has been phenomenal for Bayer Leverkusen over the last two seasons.

The 22-year-old has 16 goals and 15 assists in 44 appearances this season, making him a no-brainer for a Liverpool side that needs fresh creative energy next season.

Florian Wirtz.

Several reports have already detailed Liverpool’s pursuit of him.

Earlier on Wednesday, Kicker.de revealed that the attacker visited Liverpool on Tuesday along with his parents, who are his advisors, to discuss a potential summer move.

Bild reporter Christian Falk also confirmed the news, asserting that Wirtz and his representatives were in England on Tuesday to meet the player’s potential suitors, including Liverpool.

David Ornstein later provided further updates on the story, revealing that while Liverpool are keen on Wirtz, it is unclear at this time if the German is interested in leaving Germany.

With the news heating up, Kicker has now provided even more updates on the story.

Per the German publication (via WerkselfXtra), “everything indicates that Wirtz will leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer.”

The publication detailed that while Bayern are keen on the player, a move to the Allianz Arena may be difficult as the German champions “would probably struggle to pay the €150m asking price” that Leverkusen want for Wirtz.

The report also indicates that Manchester City and Liverpool are well advanced in discussions with Wirtz and his representatives.

Kicker sensationally claimed that “the English clubs (Liverpool and Manchester City) would easily be able to meet the €150m asking price on the player.”

Finally, the report also added that “Real Madrid could also throw their hat in the ring as Xabi Alonso’s appreciation for the player is well known and the rumour that he would like to lure the 22-year-old to Madrid is persistent.”

Wirtz’s current deal runs through 2027 without a release clause, forcing interested clubs to negotiate directly with Leverkusen.

The club’s €150m valuation remains firm, but it is particularly for Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich.

There is a suggestion that this price will be softened for clubs outside of the Bundesliga, with Liverpool in particular unlikely to sanction a deal worth that amount for the 22-year-old, although the report claims they will be able to pay that sum.
